Our mission is to provide the people of Maine with excellence in mental health, substance abuse, habilitation and life skills services,to respect consumer rights & personal dignity, and to maintain agency financial stability. The agency also holds to a set of Guiding Principles that express its beliefs and shape all of its practices. TCMHS has created groundbreaking new models for service delivery that are proving effective in increasing access to care while reducing costs and preserving clinical integrity of services. In fact, TCMHS has succeeded in drastically reducing waiting times for accessing most services. Long waiting lists have been a problem throughout the state historically, and the agency is working toward immediate access for all who need services. Operationally, TCMHS is leading the way with streamlined management practices adopted from successful businesses and corporations. The agency has made a considerable investment in the future with the most sophisticated computer and electronic record systems available. The agency's two visioning statements, developed through extensive research with staff and community leaders, are: "we will lead" and "we offer hope". These values are held and practiced throughout the agency, from the Board of Directors through Administration all the way through front line staff. Integrated Primary Care, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, MultiSystemic Therapy are among the progressive programs we have launched in Maine. The Trauma-informed System of Care Initiative is another example of a groundbreaking new program that is destined to change the way mental health services are delivered to children and families throughout the region, state, and nation.
